Baby wipes can contain unhealthy ingredients that are also unnecessary. Find non toxic baby wipes made without these harmful toxins.

Common baby wipes include ingredients like fragrances, methylisothiazolinone, phenoxyethanol, propylene glycol, 1,4-dioxane, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and more.
These ingredients are linked to allergies, organ system toxicity, endocrine disruption, and neurotoxicity.
On top of that, penetration enhancing ingredients increase the skin’s ability to absorb the ingredients applied. In this case, the skin is absorbing MORE of the other unsafe ingredients.
No product should be exposing us to these harmful ingredients, but ESPECIALLY baby products.
Ingredients to Avoid in Baby Wipes
These ingredients are commonly found in baby wipes. But here’s why we should be avoiding them…
- Potassium sorbate – a preservative used in place of parabens, but can exhibit genotoxic properties. Read more HERE and HERE.)
- Sodium benzoate – preservative known to be mutagenic
- Benzethonium Chloride: research shows links to neurotoxicity
- Artificial fragrances – The term fragrance is a catchall for thousands of chemicals including hormone disrupting phthalates, as well as skin irritants and allergens.
- Parabens: preservative known to be endocrine disruptors
- Triclosan: bioaccumulative preservative known as an endocrine disruptor, irritant (lungs, eyes, skin), potentially contaminated with chloroform and dioxins, both of which are known carcinogens.
- Grapeseed extract (Citrus grains seed extract): preservative potentially contaminated with benzethonium chloride, methylparaben, and triclosan)
Is sodium benzoate safe in baby wipes?
Sodium benzoate and citric acid are common ingredients found in baby wipe formulas. On their own, they’re not necessarily concerning in small concentrations.
But when combined, they can pose a very concerning risk…
The following baby wipes DO NOT CONTAIN SODIUM BENZOATE, but may contain citric acid, which is “A modified oil that acts as both an emulsifier, to help remove oily mess from baby’s bottom, and as a skin conditioning agent.” (Source) Even on it’s own, sodium benzoate is concerning, as it can cause organ toxicity.
Critics may argue that in small concentrations, this is not a concern. Unless I have proof that the exact concentrations are PROVEN not to be carcinogenic, this ingredinet combo doesn’t belong in my home or on my baby. It also doesn’t belong here, where mom’s are looking for advice on making safer choices for their families.
Sorry, not here, carcinogens!
